I am guessing then that you never activated the program to create restore points so there's nothing saved to go back to.
Assuming you have Windows XP, do this:
Steps to turn on System Restore
Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
In the System Properties dialog box, click the System Restore tab.
Click to clear the Turn off System Restore check box. Or, click the Turn off System Restore on all drives check box.
Click OK.
After a few moments, the System Properties dialog box closes.
If you have Windows Vista, do this:
Open System by clicking the Start button
, clicking Control Panel, clickingSystem and Maintenance, and then clicking System. In the left pane, click System Protection.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. To turn on System Protection for a hard disk, select the check box next to the disk, and then click OK.
*System protection is system restore.
