My Great Uncle (Irish) used regular but strong coffee, a high quality Irish whisky and homemade whipped cream. He would add sugar too. This recipe has been passed down for generations. When you would ask for amounts he'd say 2/3 of a mug coffee, some whipped cream stirred in, 'enough whisky' (remember now, it was the traditional drinking man's Irish coffee), a tad of sugar, topped with more whipped cream. Everyone was tanked after 1-2 of them. The sugar and 'sweet' cream allowed for 'enough' (AKA alot) of the whisky.
