Why do people like some foods and not others?

Are food preferences genetic or learned?

I think it is learned, some foods when i was a kid i didn't like, but like now e.g mushrooms, peanut butter.

Wow...a kid who DIDN'T like peanut butter? That's an unusual one, isn't it?

I'm a "texture" eater and my housemate hates me for having taught him to pay attention to the texture of the food he eats..........

I sure get that jh..I do not like coconut but I have become aware in recent years, that it is not the "taste" but only the "texture" that I dislike...if it's very fine and I don't SEE it, it's not too bad...lol

It can be a bothersome habit, can't it?

I believe it is learned.  I now love spinach but wouldn't even try it, as a kid.  My father hated it and would turn up his nose at it.  That was good enough for me...it must taste awful, if Dad wouldn't eat it.
