      You will only want to run your fridge, stove (when needed), furnace, water heater (when needed) and some lights (when needed).  Using the "when needed" saves on the amount of gas the generator will use.

        I have a 5000 watt and was able to run all of the above with no problems. My house is an over sized ranch.
