    For example, idioms have geographic and cultural boundaries. An Amercican can say to another American, "there's something rotten in Denmark" and a Dane might be perplexed, even insulted by this. In Latin America, even among countries where Spanish is the native tongue, a Bolivian can say something in Spanish to a Colombian and be not understood. I witnessed such a conversation (my wife is Bolivian).
