Advertising pays for a lot of things that people believe are "free".  Example...telephone books, small local flyers, internet info.  Whether you believe that you bother with it or not, people will often use the goods or services of ads that are regularly "in their face".  If advertising did not work, a place like McDonald's Restaurant, for example, would not spend billions of dollars on it. 

They are so much in your face that you can't help but read them.I try to ignore them though.

The ads keep the forum free. I click on them when I can. Each click generates income (a few cents) for the forum and helps alleviate the cost of the server the forum is on.

You only have to click on most of them for the click to earn a few cents, you do not have to actually make a purchase though I believe the site makes more money if a purchase is made through an ad.

i have clicked on a few ads.  would probably click on more, but i get so engrossed in the questions and comments that i don't click on as much as i normally would.
