My mom used to put cash in the envelope for the mailman to make Money Order for her Christmas orders. One year the mailman never noticed it and it went to Sears, cash in an unsealed envelope, she thought it was lost but she got her order in full. I wouldn't recommend that...........lol
I think it's safe enough. I agree with Randy, if you're concerned, send it insured mail. It shouldn't cost more than a dollar to insure it. I send cash at Christmas time every year to about 12 people, no cash has ever disappeared.

Next time I will send cash. (I am assuming that you and Randy are correct) It costs $3.00 to buy a prepaid gift certificate.
Do not listen to me about the cash. I will agree, cash is risky but I am willing to take the risk. I do not advocate others risking it. For $1.50, you could get a money order at the post office which the recipient can cash right at the post office. A postal money order is automatically insured.
