Ear mites are not good but easily treated with ear drops from your vet.

Maz - or you can clean their ears with cotton wool and liquid paraffin if the are annoyed by mites and keep putting their paws to their ears I was given this by a vet once.
Yes it does work, but often the problem is keeping the cat still! Thats were a good pillow case or towel comes in handy. Also a good indication that your cat has ear mite is the constant head shaking & ear twitching.
