Out there?! Be yourself. Join clubs. Take classes... before you know it you won't want to pick up the phone because you are so popular. The key is to enjoy and laugh a little!

Join a sports team. Don't try too hard, be yourself, I agree with ed, the local pub is a great place to meet local people, do some charity work in your area if you are able, everyone has a lot to offer, just extend your hand.
