Does not restrict me because for the most part these companies do not communicate, change or do anything but try to rip the public off. So don't keep me from saying what I want to tell them for all the good it does.

I think it has more to do with the person that is taking our call,they may be getting assesed on thier work ability and or thier phone manner.When i hear this message it doesn't bother me,as i have nothing to hide,sometimes we are given the option to not allow the conversation to be recorded.

i think assessment and ability should depend on the quality of training and supervision provided by the company not the recording which is only retrieved when the problem escalates. In the past this was not done and yet service was unaffected. Companies are passing this on to consumers so they spend less on employees.imho
I think in most cases it is required that you be informed they are recording the conversation, and that they are doing it as proof of what is said (for legal purpose).

Well sawali, you really don't want to tick off your customers by stating, this call is being recorded for legal purposes so we can cover our a$$ in case you decide to be a moron on the phone with us. ;)
