Can a house be donated to a charity for a tax write off?

I own ahouse that is costing me money for taxes and upkeep yearly.  I cannot sell it for what it is worth.  Can I donate it to the Salvation Army or Habitat for Humanity?

YES. My aunt just did it.

    I could use a home.

yes you can at fair market value and without any encumbrances. The charity or foundation immediately sells it so it has cash for doing its work. As for taxes, the charity will give you a receipt for tax purpose in the FMV amount of the house.
