    What was the original retirement age suggested by the 1929 pension commission, which authored California’s first public pension system?

    It was 65, b/c it was thougth that most people wouldn't live till 65, or if they did, they would have a heart attack or a stroke or cancer and die, almost as soon as they retired.  It was even like that up to about  1985 ish. But, now with medical advances, if a person dies at 65 he is thought of as being too young to die.  65 used to be elderly
