My operating system is Vista Home Premium. I just plug in the device and go to the control panel and find " auto play " . Click on it and your I pod will be listed if it is plugged in. Then go to it as it is listed in auto play and set how you wish to upload/download pics or whatever is on it. Probably will say import or export files or something like that.
