    4x + 5 = 3x

    x = -5

    1. Subtract 4x from both sides     4x + 5 = 3x

    2. Problem reads now.......................... 5 = -1x  or -x

    3. Divide -1 from both sides

    4. Problem reads now........................-5 = x

    You can check your problem to see if your're correct by putting  (-5 )  in place of  (x )  in the problem. 4(-5) + 5 = 3(-5)

                        -20 + 5  = -15

                             -15    = -15

     4x + 5 = 3x

    i.e. 4x - 3x = -5

    So, x = -5

    Hope this helped you to some extent.
