Way to many things here to mention. For me if all  friction were eliminated in what I do, I could conceivably create a 4,000 + HP motor.

A bearing is a inner and outer (mainly made of steel) races filled with steel balls which rotate within the races and allow a wheel or shaft to rotate freely there are different types BallBearings and Roller bearins also Taper Roller bearings. Look up S.k.f or Timkin roller bearings tell you everything you need to know about bearings and friction

When throwing pots on a wheel. Too much friction makes the clay difficult to control and rubs the skin on your hands raw.
