I've owned many and lots of rifle scopes also...but they are really something you need to get a feel for. Go to a sporting goods place and see if you can find someone with hands on experience...and try them out. See what you want, and what works for you. With technology today, there is a lot that helps in aiming them...if for nothing else, in finding the what you are looking for, and then finding the best resolution. There is a certain skill in all of it...and that is why it is important not to let yourself be rushed into buying any one set.
The important thing is...finding a saleman that actually is experienced with the equipment, rather than throwing a spiel (spelling?) at you.
If I could have joined the armed forces all over again...I'd of probably been a sniper rather than a boiler technician powering a ship. Although, I really loved making ships rock, rattle and roll! I only wish I could get my hands on the good stuff...as I just love the challenge!
When I joined the Navy years ago, I asked to join the SEALS, but I was too young...I wanted to swim in and blow things things up! SO...take it from someone that has always viewed things tactically. Believe it or not, I was named after a major general in WWII...Life is funny, but I still get to teach people who want to learn to shoot...and it's a good thing. Don't get suckered in by an inexexperienced saleman!!!!! PS. I enjoy a drink or two...so, if I get wordy...all is well intended, and fairly factual....I try not to go beyond my own experience.
