Plastic is a oil derivative meaning it starts as oil . Its widely used but that don't mean following the herd is a good idea . Then there is the source of the plastic to consider . Dont think for a minute that China gives a crap about our health . Look into making some other ice treats like slushes and ice cups . Indian children in New Mexico love to freeze all flavors of drinks in Styrofoam cups and consume them as is in the cups or put a stick and eat like a Popsicle. I dont know if this better or worse than plastic. But they really seem to enjoy. Another treat they really enjoy is Pickles ,big green pickles ,seems to better than candy .
