It is also used to treat Hypertyroidism(overactive Thyroid) Depending on dosage it can lower Thyroid hormones or destroy Thyroid tissue and does not increase chance of Throid cancer.

thats right Ann they also do it cats but they have to go in quanteen for 6 weeks! xxx

I am just guessing. When the Tsunami hit Japan earlier this year, all the iodine products were sold out at Walmart and Long's in Hawai.. I asked the store clerks why and they told me that iodine seemed to lessen the "punch" of radioactivity. Needless to say, I was unable to buy any for myself during my last trip to Asia.

I live within 7 miles of a nuclear plant. We can obtain for free pills-- potassium iodide tablets in case of an accident. Your thyroid gland really needs to work correctly!
