It is a lot more complicated then daren1 thinks. last winter I developed Thyroid problems and gained 40 lbs in 3 months. I had the thyroid removed in june but the wieght did not magically disaprear. I have to lose that the old fashioned way. I am diabled so it is difficult to do exersises.
Never assume that a large person is fat because they eat to much. there are many reasons for weight gain, and it is never easy to get rid of and the older you are the harder it is, especially for the ladies

I have not had a lot of problems with weight gain. I was underweight as a child and liked candy too much so I developed hypoglycemia that appeared to be manic-depression. That is a cyclic problem of eating sweets and the pancreas produces more insulin than needed to consume the available sugar so fat and muscle is reduced as well. So I was skinny and weak most of the time. This was not diagnosed until I was 25 and by then this habitual behavior was steadily leading me toward mental health treatment because I was hallucinating from malnutrition and sever mineral imbalances. I was diagnosed with schizophrenia in 1972 and continued along this dark path for several years thereafter. Now that I eat better and avoid sweets my weight has gone up but I have managed to stabilize my weight gain by avoiding carbs in excess, and maintain a healthy diet. I am still working on my dietary needs to feel fit and have the energy I need to be able to work more than a couple of hours. The “normal diet” of what most folk consume each day doesn’t work for me. I have to work on my physical needs a lot more than most folk…it’s a science for me.
