Weird previous answer. There are still mercury thermometers, but mostly used in labs and such. A regular household thermometer does not contain mercury, but they used to until pretty recently. it's not that dangerous, just dont eat it or play with it

The amount of mercury in a "curley fries “ light is so small it is barely measurable. An amalgam dental filling the size of a pin head has enough mercury to illuminate a dozen of those lamps.
The mercury in medical thermometers was replaced with red alcohol years ago although there are still plenty of them around. Electronic thermometer are replacing nearly all other methods of measuring temperature. Electronic thermometers don’t have mercury in them. Temperature affects the electrical resistance of bi-metal junctions like bismuth and copper. Many alloy combinations can be used for temperature measurements over a very wide range.
