Plants sense the sun by the following mechanism: auxin is a growth hormone produced by plants. When exposed to sunlight, this hormone is broken down. So, when sunlight hits a plant in a certain angle, auxin is broken down in a specific area and remains in another area. The area in which auxin remains grows whereas thae area where is had been broken down doesn’t change and the plant becomes directed towards the sun.
