Elliot Stabler in the long running tv show law and order left the police after feeling remorse for shooting and killing a young girl who fired a gun in the special victim’s squad room. The actor Christopher Meloni, who portrayed Elliot, announced at the end of the 12th season that he will not be returning to the show for the 13th season. I did not manage to find an announcement on the reason why he decided to leave the show. But a few days after he announced that he is leaving Law & Order Meloni said that he is in contact with HBO to take a major role in the 5th season of "True Blood".
