I've never heard of a drug to prevent alcoholism, but there is a drug to prevent someone from drinking alcohol. It is called antibuse, and makes someone really sick if they ingest alcohol. The drug itself doesn't prevent alcoholism, but is more an insurance policy that a person won't being drinking anything that contains alcohol.

But the person taking it has to do so on purpose and I don't see that happening with very many alcoholics......
It all depends on whether or not the person is trying to quit, and that they want to quit, but are afraid of being tempted to drink during the course of a day. No one can make someone quit drinking, except for the person themself wanting to quit drinking when they are tired of it destroying their life.
