But technically the only time it is called air force one is when the president is on board. Any aircraft that he is on and if the air force is flying it is called air force one even a helicopter.

GREENSBORO — Pilots of the plane that President Obama uses to travel practiced some takeoff and landings today at Piedmont Triad International.
PTI is a favorite among Air Force pilots wanting to stay sharp because the airspace is not overly populated with aircraft.
