      Americans are tougher than the Brits. We can handle extra words where they wimp out and run out of breath with too many words. I'M KIDDING!!!

        To my way of thinking :Go to hospital means I or someone has to be addmitted to hospital. Thus they "Go to hospital"


        Go to the hospital means, to me, go to a hospital for other than admittance, example I had to go to the hospital x-ray department or I had to go to the hospital to visit my mate.
