    Plant cell functions:
There are three different types of plant cells:

Parenchyma Cells: These cells are alive and perform many functions: storage of vital materials for the plant or of waste, absorption of light, exchange of gas molecules.
Totipotent Parenchyma Cells –function as stem cells and can divide in order to create more Plant cells.

Collenchyma Cells: These cells are alive only during the plant’s growing phase. They have two walls, primary wall and secondary wall. They’re derived from Parenchyma cells, which later differentiate into collenchyma cells. Their job is to support the structure of the plant during it’s growth and they’re located in the vascular bundles and stems.

Sclerenchyma Cells: These cells are also alive only during the plant’s growing phase and dead at maturity. Their secondary walls are thick and contain Lignin. These cells function is strictly to support of the plant.
