 Burgandy came to mind, when you mentioned a gold couch.You could go a lighter shade of this sample, if it is too dark.Just my personal choice.

Grey is the in Colour at the moment as a back drop this would work very well

According to the wheel of colors the color that should work well with gold is a shade of blue.

Since gold is considered a neutral, a deep barn red. Although, you must consider the adjoining rooms to make a cohesive look.
