Can I change this purple face icon or do I have to have a certain # of Karma before I can qualify to do that? How does it work?

Go to your profile page (at the top of this page where it says "Edit my profile"), see your profile picture (icon) under it, see gravatar. Click that link and follow the instructions.

How long before it actually shows up? I cleared my cookies

It takes a few minutes..if I remember right, it says about 20 minutes?

I looked it up and it said 5 to 10 minutes but I followed the instructions & cleared my cache & cookies, & tried to verify by email but it said error on page. Email is all lower case as they suggested & when I went to contact them at gravatar.com the email address doesnt exist?????

Do the process again and make sure you link your e-mail address if it's not the one you used to join this site with. Be very sure you imputed the e-mail address correctly.

My email address starts with a capital letter, how do I change it?

You would have to go into your e-mail profile and see if they allow you to reset your address. Try imputing your e-mail address using the capitol letter anyway and see if it accepts it.
