This generally depends upon the owner of the dog. I've had to have two dogs put down who were dying of cancer....it was left up to me by the veterinarian whether I wished for cremation or to have them buried in a local pet cemetary (it is illegal to bury your pet in your backyard for instance) I opted for cremation as the affordability of the pet cemetary was out of my reach.
