You should have your water tested first for impurities that can harm fish.  If you are keeping Marine (Salt water) fish there are metals that can be present in well water that are harmful.  If copper is present in your well water that can be harmful for aquarium dwellers such as snails.

If the water is very soft there are fish that don't care for that.  Carbonate hardness is also something that should be considered if you do intend on using buffers to create certain environments.

When I had my fish aquarium I use my well water and live for almost eleven year old, then we went on city water and couldn't keep one fish alive after that.
