My four-year-old grandaughter would rather come to my house than be in her own home. She doesn't have competition from her sister and she gets lots of attention. Do you think this is a problem?

You are very lucky. I wish my grandchildren had been living closer when they were small. They all lived more than 4 hours away. I love children. I dont see a problem with your grandaughter wanting to come to your house. Enjoy it while you can.

i will, ann. these conversations have helped me. i worked with preschool age children all my working days - and then i wrote about it. anyway, i realize it's a tiny window. if my daughter objects, she can fight me for the affection of her a daughter. (I didn't mean this in a mean way) : )

Greet her with open arms, and spoil the living daylights out of her.I am a grandmother too,and i cherish every moment i have with my 7 year old grandson.

I've heard many grandparents say they enjoy "spoiling" their grandchildren. I guess that may be just the way it is. If my daughter gets a little jealous of the situation maybe she'll go into competition with me and treat her little girl much better.

My great grand daughter does not leave my side when she comes to visit. She literally walks to the bathroom and waits outside the door for me. An hour before she leaves she wraps her arms around my neck so that I can barely breath. She gives me an unexpected kiss every half hour. An absolute angel. Deaf since birth she was slow in talking. Her parents say she's become more vocal now. Father say's she's bitchy. Not with not with papa Jean though.(ed shank)

I pick up my two grand children at their school and take them to my home three times a day.  They do their homework and practice piano here.  I buy them a lot of snack.  They watch TV after they have done thier homework.  They enjoy the flexibility here than in their own home.  They tell their school mates that they like to come to my house. We have established a very close relationship.  I don't see any problem with that.

ben ... aha ... so you're "snack man" and i am "snack lady" we should

Too bad! Good night, snack lady.

No it's not a problem. We have 2 grand-daughters & they would both rather stay here with us than go home.(There are less rules here).LOL.

We spoil them rotten. That's our priviledge.

so happy to hear this. yep, i spoil her. i take a snack to preschool when i pick her up at 11:30. she drinks her cold drink in a sippy cup, and munches on a 'tookie' or a cracker.
    she's my joy.
i had a dream about her when she was first born. i dreamed that she rode her bike to my house in her brownie uniform. i helped her bake 'tookies' and i helped her with something else ... don't know.
she has two sister close in age but the other two aren't my tiny 'soul mates'

Someone has given you good care. You know what it is for sure! I kinda worry that she'll bug her mom (my daughter) to come to my house.

Thank you, Rachel.  I read good books, play games, and videotape her singing. I KNOW she'll grow up to be a singer ... or at least in a chorus. We have lots of fun.

Your answer kinda helped me. There are many things to worry about. I probably should put my worry somewhere else.

    Welcome to Akaqa!

Grand parents are such an important part of little kids lives. We have much to teach them about life & all of the everyday things that parents often don't have time for. Small wonder really that she prefers your place to home. You obviously have the time to spare her & she appreciates it.

I never had grand parents. They were all deceased before I was born.I never realized what I had missed out on until I had my own grand kids. It's great to go the extra yard for them because they pay you back tenfold.

    Yep, tommy. I hear ya.
it takes me more time to pick out snacks for my grandkids than to do the house shopping.
    those spoiled thangs!

I worry that something is wrong , if she wants to be with you rather than be at her own home . I had an abuse situation in one of my relatives lives and the child would cry and scream not to go home when she was at her grannys house , and come to find out there was a reason for her behaviour

I do believe the situation is that my little friend has a darrrrrling little sister, age two. she also has a very accomplished sister age 6. My little friend just wants to laugh, dance, sing, and joke around. I think she enjoys that we do a lot of that here.

nanners ... of course i hear you.

i say if you give attention to your grand douter alone. if you give her to read good books.music.good food.and t
