It depends on the options and size (screen etc) 7lb's is heavy for laptops these days, I just got a new 17" LOADED MacBook Pro and it's 6.2 I believe. That's about the heaviest I would even consider. On the consumer reports quick look list the lightest is 5.6 lbs (Macbook) and the heaviest is 8lb (Gateway)
