0.5% > move decimal point two places to the left.

0.5% = 0.005

Multiply 0.005 by 250

0.005 * 250 = 1.25

So, 0.5% of 250 = 1.25

Follow this steps:

1. First convert the given percentage into fraction [ Try to simplify the fraction to simple whole number ratio]

2. Then, multiply it with the given number and solve it. You will obtain the final result.

For your problem,

1.  Converting  0.5% into fraction as 0.5/ 100, trying to maintain simple whole number ratio

we get, 5/1000 [ Here, I have multiplied both numerator and denominator by factor 10]

2. Then, multiplying this simple ratio with 250,

i.e 5/1000 × 250 = 5/4 = 1.25

So, your final result is 1.25 [ in decimal] and 5/4 [in fraction]

.5% is difficult to translate.  .5 is 5/10, is the same as 1/2, so if you mean .5, the answer is 125 (half of 250).

If you mean 5%,  .05, 5/100 (which is 1/20), the answer is 12.5 (12 1/2).  

My mistake, if anyone is interested, 5% of 350 is 17.5......................
