Most all of you are correct.  However,  Relative to size, the strongest muscle in the body is the tongue.  The following are muscles that have been deemed the strongest based on various definitions of strength (listed in alphabetical order):    External Muscles of the Gluteus Maximus – the largest muscle in the human body.   Heart – the hardest working             Masseter – the strongest muscle based on its weight is the masseter. Yvonne57 has obviously done our homework.  I would have said "heart", though.  It is constantly working, and the rest do have a chance to rest!

Hi Bob/PKB, the heart is one of the strongest muscles and one reason is because it is constantly working. Same with the tongue. It is the strongest muscle and is also constantly working.

There is no one answer to this question, as there are different ways to measure strength. My guess as to one strong muscle, are the Eye muscle..?

Yes Dollybird, the eyelid is one of the strongest muscle, but not the strongest. That would be the tongue.

carmaxable, I thought about the sphincter muscle also, but it's not on the list. I bet it's pretty strong though.

I should think it must be the heart - it works so hard physically and emotionally and when it gets hurt if sometimes bounces back.

What  do you mean by  strongest in relationship to what?
