If this has happened anywhere in North America, I imagine that a doctor can do whatever he/she wishes.  Most doctors could have a waiting list of 2,000 patients, if they kept such a list. They would have no problem getting rid of those who irritate either them, or any of their staff members. 

Unfornately they can in the UK - they would take the word of the nurse, in case she left him - so very unjust and can even get the practice manager involved. It is all so business orientated here and of course everybody is covering their back. They say here there is a thing called patients autonomy but once in their hands the patient nowadays looses their autonomy (I have been told by so many professionals)  Your life is in their hands and their hands are in their pockets. So very unjust and lacking in humanity.. 

Yes they can and you have the right to go elsewhere at that point.
