I think it does. Take a look at the states that have the death penalty compared to the states that do not. How does crime stack up in each? I'll try to remember to research this later. Right now I'm multitasking.

You got good point Colleen, reguarding, the long drawn out appeals. Fault of Goverment. !

Government is famous for foot dragging.

I dont think the lethal injection  or death penalty derters crime. If it did, why is Death Row, always full.?

Because of the long drawn out appeals process. Years and years of appeals cause a backup. Some inmates can sit on death row for 20 years. It would not be full if it weren't for backlogged court of appeals.

I have never heard of anybody who was executer for committing a hanes crime who ever committed another hanes crime, have you.

True, but there are lots to replace them. Why ?

As someone pointed out, there are fewer murders is states the impose the death penalty, than is states the impose life in prison.

Killers ave killed again, guards and other inmates, in life in prison states.

With DNA there is little chance to getting away with murder today

yes maybe in a few rare cases but overall no.. people are still going to do whats in their heart regardless of the cosequences..

No. States wihtout the death penalty have had lower persistent crimes, In 2009 States without the death penalty  the percentage was 3.9% per 100 000 thousand, while states with death penalty had 5.26% per 100 000 thousand .

Most murders are crimes of passion, who thinks "I could get killed for this" before they "swing the ax"?

Even the guilty can go free. look what happened with the Anthony baby killer case

    No S*%#....

no it doesnt deter murder in my opinion. people do things and think nothing will happen to them or they think the have the "perfect" crime and wont get caught. there is no statuate of limitations on murder.

No, I don't believe it's a deterrent. State induced death is to sterile. If the death were a long drawn out process, I believe it could be a deterrent. Manually strangled (By hand), disembowelment, quartered. These horrific methods would be a deterrent. Crime was not rampant while Saddam Hussein was in power, the man was the master of torture.

Not at all,  no one ever thinks they'll be caught!   Criminals are clever,........... but not always  clever enough!!!

Perhaps be we all have heard of the ten Commandments and the wrath of God to will follow
