      Creationists believe that it was formed about 4,500 years ago by the erosion caused when the waters of the Flood receded. Creationists are crackpots ( and Republicans).

        recent geological evidence suggests the Colorado River established its course through the canyon at least 17 million years ago. Since then, the Colorado River continued to erode and form the canyon to its present-day configuration.
