could also mean trowing  the boss a few bucks to keep you working..

When your at a bar and after you drink 3 beers, the bartender KICKS BACK your 4th brew.

Then 3 beers later you get ANOTHER kick back.

Some can't make it to the 2nd kick back, but I'm a professional.

Yes it could be sitting back an relaxing after a long day at work, playing, etc., then it could be an illegal activity like being a police officer that looks away/turns head while someone runs a drug dealing operation or steals things and don't report the crime as long as they recieve payment for their remaining quite of the crimes or for promoting a business/product illegally for the sole purpose of recieving favors/payments for helping.
