There are organisms that can live with very little amount of light, such as certain fish species in deep sea, which through evolution developed enlarged eyes, retinas, and other means so that they can see better. Fish use disolved oxygen that is found in sea water.
There are bacteria types that can adopt and survive in absence of oxygen. These bacteria use oxygen when it is found in their environment, and when oxygen is absent, they use fermentation to extract energy from carbohydrates, which is a process that occur when oxygen is absent.  Bacteria that can only leave in the absence of oxygen use only fermentation.
There are no known bacteria that can leave in total darkness, but only for limited time periods.
