There are few relatively rare epidural injection side effects:
- Bleeding: very rare. More common for patients with bleeding disorders.
- Dural puncture: happen in 0.5% of the injections, and may lead to headaches that can be treated quit easily.
- Nerve damage: extremely rare. May result from a direct trauma from the injection's needle, from bleeding, or from infection.
- Infections. Severe infections are rare: occurring in 0.01% to 0.1% of the injections.
