Empathy has two possible meanings:
1) (the more common meaning) Someone's feeling of understanding and identifying with another's feelings, motives, or experience, be it good / bad, happy, etc.
2) Someone's subjective / imaginary projection of his / her personal feelings onto an object or a piece of art.
Empathetic listening is a listening that provides the listener with an accurate understanding of the speaker's message. It is also called effective listening.
