      The poem was wriiten in 1932 by Mary Elizabeth Frye. The origin was confirmed by Abigail Van Buren (DEAR ABBEY) after she researched it thoroughly in 1998.

          dont qoute me on it but the name Mary E frye has popped into my head,i know the poem you mean ,its beautiful.Another similar one is Christina Rossetti Remember me
