Why i diesel dearer than petrol

When I sterted driving, which was a long time ago, diesel, or derv as it was called then was a lot cheaper than petrol. I cant remember the time scale, but it then got to be about the same price. In the last few years it has begun galloping ahead of petrol, and is currently six or seven pence a litre dearer. Given that diesel is a less refined product, and presumably cheaper to produce. Does anyone know why it is dearer at the pump

its simply a matter of supply and demand ,they supply us with the fuel and demand more and more money

Its true that diesel fuel is cheaper to produce than gasolene but most vehicles in the world is powered by diesl engines thus the higher price for disel fuel

my understanding is that diesel is a by product of gas prodution its pricing has increased as demand has
