According to experts, codeine remains present in the urine for two to four days after ingestion. While in the body, the drug codeine converts to morphine as it is metabolized. Therefore, any drug test given while codeine remains in the body will produce a positive result for morphine, which is also a component in powerful street and outlawed street drugs, such as heroin. For this reason, it's very important to avoid codeine for a week or more if you're taking a scheduled drug test.
