Been to the DR 9 times and every time the weather has been unpredictable.
Tropical storms and hurricanes are still a possibility for that area in October but I wouldn't cancel vacation plans until you KNOW FOR SURE your destination area will be hit. It rains off and on just about everyday. Most lasting no more than 10 minutes. Its always sunny and pleasant.
Its a great place to visit.

Nothing outside the compounds are worth venturing to. (Punta Cana Area)
