Why do you have to get my credit card information if this is free membership

It's not free! You may get 10-30 days free then they start charging your card. You can't get the days free without giving your card. It's a catch 22!

They are hoping you will forget to cancel and they can squeeze a few months payment out of you. It's dirty.

Don't be fooled.  When they ask you for your cc number, most likely, they will charge your card after 30 days or so of "trial period".  And if you try to call them up to cancel, their customer service is the hardest people to get hold of.  Trust me, been there, done that.
