I think its when two people  of either sex or opposite sex  have a live together relationship .

A Domestic Partnership can apply to either a straight or homosexual couple. For the straight couple they choose this because they want the benefits of marriage without being married. For the homosexual couple it is the only choice they have to get some of the benefits that marriage provides since the state they live in does not recognize gay marriage but does allow them domestic partnership. Domestic Partnership is suppose to be equal to marriage but in most cases it has been found to lack some of the benefits that marriage offers. Domestic Partnership does not extend to the federal level.
