Compression of the spine is when the vertebrae are squished too close together to the point that they can overlap ( like mine do ) or the gel --like substance starts to ooz out a little. The discs can stick out too and become displaced, causing great pain. This is commonly called a slipped disc.

And the spine starts to become stiff --ankilosis. The causes are  old age, or lack of activity, or heavy lifting , pushing , and pulling. Or falling on one's  butt with force.

tommy, mine was caused by heavy lifting, pushing , adn pulling of heavy stroke patients. They can't help you b/c of their paralysis , they're dead weight. And I was born with an extra vertebrae. It's 1/2 a vertebrae and it's called '' a transitional vertebrae'' Plus, when I was in the 8th grade, I fell on the ice on my butt and found out later in life that my tail bone was broken....it's crooked now. That was never addressed back then even tho' I had a lot of pain.
