There are confirmed reports of nutria from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge to Ocean City, Maryland, and south to the Virginia border . Nutria are also on the western shore of Maryland in the Patuxent and Potomac rivers, and to the northeast in Delaware (Bounds 1998). There are established populations in at least eight counties on the eastern shore of Maryland, with the densest populations in Dorchester County.
