Timber Rattlesnake are generally uniformly black on top, or dark with brown blotches or cross bands, and yellowish below.

I was walking on a steep cliff. One wrong step and I'd tumble down down down down down.
It was odd because up there on the mountain I heard A BABIES RATTLE.
It didn't scare me at all. I just kept putting one foot in front of the other.
The lesson here: Sometimes your mind will play a trick on you. If I thought I was in the area of a rattler, I would have freaked out and fallen down the cliff and been injured or killed.
I realized this after I had passed the area and was in a totally safe area.

Messenger: Do they have a rattle like I reported? I don't know if my encounter was with a timber.
